Why Everyone is Ditching JUUL
When it comes to e-cigs and pod vapes, JUUL has been at the top of the game for some time now. However, these vapes are lacking in several key areas, leaving many vape enthusiasts wanting more.
What’s more, many areas have seen an increase in laws and regulations on JUULs specifically, preventing many vapers from buying the pod flavors that made JUUL so great (RIP mango pods).
Here’s why vape enthusiasts from across the world are ditching JUUL for better vape alternatives.
What is JUUL?
In 2015, JUUL labs launched their innovative pod vapes, featuring a battery device and disposable pods. The vapes were created to be an option for those quitting tobacco and became one of the most successful e-cigarette devices on the market.
For the next few years, JUUL took control of the vaping industry, selling a whopping 75% of all e-cigarettes sold in the United States,
After years of wild success and huge popularity, JUUL came under intense scrutiny from the FDA and local lawmakers around the world for their deceptive marketing practices and potentially dangerous products.
New Regulations on JUUL Products
With JUULs massive hold over the vaping market, many regulatory agencies took notice of the company and began to scrutinize its marketing practices and products. In early 2018, local and state lawmakers started enacting bans on the flavored pods sold by the company, banning many of JUULs most popular products in numerous states.
Today, over 4,000 different lawsuits have been filed against JUUL labs, stating that the company failed to warn users of the risks of their products. Many critics have argued that JUUL intentionally marketed its products to teens, causing millions of minors to get addicted to nicotine.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the recent lawsuits filed against JUUL:
- June 2021: JUUL paid $40 million to settle a suit in North Carolina after lawmakers claimed the company was solely responsible for an increase in underage vaping use.
- November 2021: JUUL paid out $14.5 million to Arizona after the state’s Attorney General alleged that the company had understated the risks of vaping and intentionally targeted its marketing efforts at minors.
- September 2022: JUUL agreed to pay over $400 million to settle cases in over 30 dozen states who claim JUUL illegally marketed its products to minors.
In 2022, the Food and Drug Administration ordered JUUL to stop selling all of its products across the US, however, it has since placed a temporary hold on that order.
With the numerous lawsuits and allegations that have taken place over the last few years, it seems likely that JUUL products will be off local shelves sometime in the near future.
If you are someone who is currently using JUUL products, it’s time to start seeking the best vaping alternatives.
Non-Refillable Pods
If you’ve ever used JUUL before, you know just how expensive it can be to use. While the battery comes cheap, the pods don’t. At anywhere between $12-25 for a pack of short-lived pods, one may find themselves spending hundreds of dollars a month to support their habit.
More than just the cost, the lack of flavor options may leave vape connoisseurs feeling underwhelmed, with no customization options available. With no many amazing new flavors and types of vape juice out there, the small stock of available pod flavors offered by JUUL seems dismal in comparison.
When choosing the perfect flavor for a vape, people want options. Being able to customize your vaping experience, with different nicotine levels, cloud production and delicious flavors is one of the best parts of vaping. When it comes to JUUL compatible pods, users are limited to a handful of flavors with none of the other personalized options.
Also, with the numerous lawsuits filed against JUUL, it’s likely that these disposable pods will become increasingly hard to find or purchase.
Low Power
The vape market in 2024 has seen an explosion of power and battery upgrades to almost every sector and brand of vape. JUUL hasn’t seemed to notice this (or maybe just doesn’t care) and is still using a 200mAh battery in their products.
These small batteries mean low power, small cloud production, and a short-lived lifespan. No one wants to spend all their time with their vape on the charger, yet anyone with a JUUL is likely searching their buddy’s house for a USB port right now.
Weak Clouds
While some might not care about blowing big clouds with their vapes, many do. It’s worth noting that JUUL vapes produce relatively small amounts of vapor with each hit, making them poor options for all our big-cloud lovers out there.
