What Is A Rebuildable Atomizer?
In the world of vaping, there are several categories of atomizer systems. A rebuildable atomizer, or RBA, holds a distinct place of significance as one of those categories. RBA’s can be either rebuildable drip atomizers (RDAs) or rebuildable tank atomizers (see RTAs). What makes these atomizers rebuildable? When it comes to the wicks and coils, you build it yourself. In fact, the wicks and coils are actually referred to as “builds”.
And just to confuse things a little bit, there is also an RDTA, a rebuildable dripping tank atomizer. And confusing is an appropriate word in this case. Of all the rebuildable atomizers, this is the most perplexing.
The Rebuildable Tank Atomizer
Also referred to as RTA, this atomizer uses a tank system. When an RBA is referred to as an RTA it means that it is covered by a metal chamber cap (that is sealed) and has a deck with posts. Around the chamber, exclusively for holding your e-juice, is a tank reservoir. A chimney connects with the chamber cap. This is responsible for getting vapor to the drip tip. Pressure and gravity push your e-juice down and around the chamber cap, into the tank. It then goes up through channels or slots on the deck’s outer circumference. Within these channels, the wicks are placed. When the wick is saturated with your e-juice, it gets to the coils for vaporization. With an RTA, there is no manual dripping. The tank is the main difference between an RTA and an RDA.
Rebuildable Drip Atomizer
Also referred to as RDA, this atomizer uses a dripper system. An RDA has, in order to heat the coils, a mod or battery. An electrical connection is made between the battery and the coils. The coils are anchored by a deck with posts. An outer shell, or cap, covers the deck. It either slides on with O-rings or screws on with threading. No tank is used for e-juice. Rather, to vape with this device, drop by drop of e-liquid is dripped directly onto the wicks or coils. Normally, this is done after cap removal; and after dripping, the cap is replaced. Sometimes, under the coils, the deck may contain a well. Ordinarily, less than 1 mm of e-liquid can be held in this well.
Any number of true vaping aficionados strongly believe that a more intense, pure flavor is produced by RDAs. They are in a class by themselves, according to these experienced vapers. One such vaper, to put it bluntly, said the following: “Rebuildable drip atomizers are, more or less, the gold standard against which you measure all the other kinds of atomizers.”
RTDAs – Just for Fun
As mentioned earlier, there is also a vaping device referred to as an RDTA. Back in the day, these could also be referred to as auto drippers. Oddly enough, however, the automated part was still operated manually. Again, back in the day, these were hard to work and, when they did, they didn’t work well. A couple of years ago, they were somewhat hard to find. But in the pursuit of the perfect vape, manufacturers began tweaking the design as early as 2015. Now, enhanced performance is the selling point for the “new and improved” RTDA. They reportedly run circles around normal RTA’s.
And, as a final even more confusing note, we will name three additional types of rebuildable tanks: Kayfun Tanks, Genesis Tanks, and Carto Tanks.
