Puffco Buying Guide: Pivot vs Proxy vs Peak vs Peak Pro
Four Devices, One Chamber Technology, Wildly Different Use Cases
Puffco built the modern concentrate vape category — the original Peak in 2018 defined what an electric dab rig could be, and every device the company has shipped since has refined the same core idea. Today the lineup is four devices, all running variations of the same 3D Chamber heating technology, all built to the same standard, but each designed for a completely different way of using concentrates.
The problem most buyers run into is that Puffco doesn’t make it obvious which device is right for what. The product pages explain features; they don’t explain trade-offs. So buyers either pick by price (which misses what each device actually does) or by name recognition (which usually pushes them toward the Peak Pro and overspending). This guide compares all four current Puffco devices side by side, explains what each one is for, and tells you which one to buy based on how you actually dab — not just what looks coolest.
→ Best for portability (under $150): Puffco Pivot — $124.99. The 3D Chamber in a true pocket-sized device.

→ Best for modular setups: New Puffco Proxy — $239.99. App control, swappable glass, pipe form factor.
→ Best overall (no budget cap): Puffco Peak Pro — $425. The flagship: app control, wireless charging, larger chamber.

What All Four Devices Share
Before the differences, it’s worth knowing what every current Puffco device has in common — because the shared technology is the reason Puffco devices outperform the budget tier across the board.
3D Chamber heating. Every current Puffco device uses sidewall ceramic heating — the heating element is embedded in the ceramic walls of the chamber, surrounding your concentrate from all sides rather than heating from below. This produces more even vapor, better terpene preservation, and far less burned residue than traditional coil-based devices. It’s the single most important upgrade Puffco has made since the original 2018 Peak.
Joystick Cap. All four devices ship with the same Onyx Joystick Cap — a small carb cap with directional airflow. Twist it during your draw to create a vortex inside the chamber that extracts vapor evenly from the chamber walls. Once you learn the timing, it noticeably improves flavor on lower heat settings.
Real-time temperature calibration. Every Puffco device has temperature sensors embedded in the chamber that monitor actual temperature during your session and adjust power output to hold the target. This is why Puffco devices stay consistent shot-to-shot while budget e-rigs drift over a session.
USB-C charging. All four use USB-C, with pass-through support so you can hit them while plugged in. Only the Peak Pro adds wireless charging on top.
2-year warranty. Puffco backs every device with a 2-year warranty — the best in the category. Most competitors offer 12 months.
What changes between devices isn’t the core chamber technology — that’s basically the same across all four. What changes is the form factor, the chamber size, the addition of app control, and what kind of session each device is built for.
The Puffco Pivot — Portability First
The Pivot is the smallest device in the lineup and the only one designed for true daily carry. It’s a pen-shaped device that fits in a pocket, weighs almost nothing, and operates with a single button. The 3D Chamber is scaled down to fit the pen format, the battery is sized for short on-the-go sessions, and the whole device disappears when you’re not using it.
Who it’s for: The Pivot is the right device if you actually dab on the move — at concerts, hiking, traveling, or just away from home regularly. It’s also the right entry point into Puffco’s ecosystem at the lowest price ($124.99). For users who’ve been using budget dab pens and want to feel what the 3D Chamber upgrade actually delivers, this is the gateway device.
What you give up: The Pivot has the smallest chamber capacity of any Puffco device, the shortest battery life in the lineup, and no app control. It’s not designed for marathon home sessions or heavy users — it’s designed to be the device that’s actually in your pocket when you want a dab.

The New Puffco Peak — Home Dabbing’s Best Value
The New Peak (the 2024 refresh of the original 2018 Peak) is Puffco’s home e-rig at the most reasonable entry point. It looks like the original Peak but the heating system inside is completely different — the new 3D Chamber replaces the old coil-based system, which is what made the upgrade meaningful.
At $220, the New Peak delivers premium home-e-rig vapor quality without paying for the Peak Pro’s exclusive features (app control, wireless charging, the larger 3DXL chamber). For most home dabbers — meaning you take small-to-medium dabs and don’t plan to customize firmware settings — the New Peak gives you the same vapor as the Peak Pro for $205 less.
Who it’s for: The home dabber who wants Puffco’s chamber quality but doesn’t need app control or the larger chamber. It’s the best vapor-per-dollar in the Puffco lineup, and it sits at a price point where it competes directly with mid-range portables like the Auxo Cira ($160) and Pulsar Chorus ($120) — and wins on chamber size and ecosystem support.
What you give up: No portability (tabletop only), no Bluetooth app, no wireless charging, smaller chamber than the Peak Pro 3DXL.

The New Puffco Proxy — The Modular Choice
The Proxy is the strangest device in the lineup, and it’s strange on purpose. It’s shaped like a sherlock pipe — the bowl is the 3D Chamber, the stem is the airpath — but the entire heating system is packed into a small rubberized base that pops out and slots into different glass attachments. One base, many setups. You can run it as a dry-hit pipe, drop it into a water bubbler attachment (the Puffco Bub), or pair it with any of the dozens of third-party glass pieces designed for the Proxy ecosystem.
The 2024 update added Bluetooth app control and a taller redesigned chamber. The result is a portable device with app-level customization at a more reasonable price than the Peak Pro.
Who it’s for: Buyers who want a modular system — the ability to change between dry pipe sessions, water-filtered sessions, and custom glass attachments using one base. Also the right choice if you want app control in a portable format without paying Peak Pro pricing.
What you give up: Battery life is the shortest in the lineup (~15 dabs per charge), the pipe form factor is polarizing (you’ll love it or hate it), and it costs more than the New Peak despite being a smaller device.

The Puffco Peak Pro — The Flagship
The Peak Pro is Puffco’s flagship and the device most people picture when they think of an electric dab rig. It’s the New Peak with everything added — Bluetooth app control (custom temperatures to the degree, custom LED colors, firmware updates), wireless charging, a hard-shell carrying case, additional preset modes, and the option of a 3DXL chamber that’s 78% larger than the standard chamber for bigger dabs.
At $425 it’s significantly more expensive than the New Peak ($220), and the honest question is whether the extra features justify the price. For most users, they don’t. The features the Peak Pro adds only matter if you actually use them — app-level temperature customization, firmware updates, the larger 3DXL chamber for big dabs.
Who it’s for: Heavy users who take large dabs (the 3DXL chamber matters), buyers who want full app-level control over every session parameter, and anyone for whom wireless charging is a genuine convenience rather than a feature on a spec sheet. Also the right choice if you want Puffco’s best engineering and don’t care about the price gap.
What you give up: $205 more than the New Peak for features that most users don’t use. Same form factor as the New Peak (not more portable). No real downside otherwise — it’s just expensive.

Where Puffco Sits Against the Competition
Even at the entry-level Pivot price ($124.99), Puffco isn’t competing on price — it’s competing on vapor quality, build quality, and ecosystem. At every price tier, Puffco devices are more expensive than comparable competitors, but they deliver more in three specific areas:
Chamber technology. The 3D Chamber sidewall heating is genuinely better than the coil-based heating most competitors still use. The flavor and consistency improvement is real, not marketing.
Temperature calibration. Budget e-rigs (the $60–$100 tier) lock in a power level and hope the chamber stays at the right temperature. Puffco devices actively monitor and adjust. The result is shot-to-shot consistency that budget devices can’t match.
Ecosystem support. All Puffco glass tops and chambers are cross-compatible across the Peak line. The Proxy supports a huge third-party glass aftermarket. A Puffco device you buy today still has accessory support five years from now — that’s not true of most competitors.
The honest comparison: at the same price point, you can get a competent dab device from Lookah, Yocan, Pulsar, or Auxo. What you get with Puffco is engineering polish, vapor consistency, and a device that ages well. Whether that’s worth the premium depends on how often you dab and how much you care about consistency. For occasional users, the budget tier is fine. For daily users who care about the experience, Puffco earns the premium.
