Puffco Peak Pro Review

The Puffco Peak Pro is a premium electric dab rig. It has a high price-tag, but in return it’s said to deliver an exceptional experience. It’s won many accolades – including the crown of 1st Place Winner in our own Best Electric Dab Rig shortlist! But is it worth the money? The DVP team has tried out the Peak Pro – let’s see how it performs!

Atomizer Chamber

To start off – let’s take a look at the most important component of all. The Puffco Peak Pro atomizer chamber. It has a large capacity, which is about 40% larger than the original Puffco Peak. This is great for those of you who hit large dabs. We’ve also tested the device with small dabs, and it performs well with tiny amounts of concentrates, too. The bowl is made from ceramic, which is durable & lasts really well (just ensure to clean it regularly!).

Now one drawback is that the atomizer on the Peak Pro is a closed system. That means that you can’t take apart, modify and customize it in any way – like you were able to do with the original Puffco Peak. This does make cleaning a little more fiddly – but you can just drop the entire atomizer in isopropyl alcohol.

The atomizer has an embedded temperature sensor inside of it, which communicates with the Peak Pro device. If you disconnect the atomizer and turn it upside down – you’ll see 3 connections, which talk to your device. These sensors maintain your atomizer at the exact temperature that you set it to. This works regardless of how hard you inhale, or how full your chamber is. It’s a really smart feature – one that the precision-enthusiast will love!

Water Bubbler

Why do most concentrate lovers choose an electric dab rig? Simple. It’s for that glorious water filtration. The Peak Pro water bubbler allows you to fill a good amount of water into the glass. This generous volume of water makes a positive effect on how cool your hit actually is. Want to keep the temperature low? You’ll get a nice, tasty level of flavor. Or if you prefer to turn the temperature high, close to the max? You’ll can get some huge rips from the Peak Pro. And the water bubbler will make that vapor palatable, and not too intense that you end up coughing your lungs up!

Precision Temperatures

The Puffco Peak Pro has 4 default temperature settings, with a corresponding LED light color. These 4 settings are just for starters. With the smartphone app – you can create an almost unlimited number of customized temperature/time/color combos! But these 4 levels are well balanced, and cover the most commonly enjoyed experiences. These are;

• Low 490°F 🔵 Blue Light
  • Optimal flavor and lowest vapor production
• Medium 510°F 🟢 Green Light
  • Balanced flavor and vapor production – Best of both worlds!
• High 530°F 🔴 Red Light
  • High vapor production, whilst maintaining flavor
• Peak 545°F ⚪ White Light
  • Max vapor and strength, with less flavor

Travel Friendly

The travel case that comes included is really useful. It is hard-shelled, and has magnets which hold it both open and closed. These magnets have a really secure feel, and the 2 concealed drawers help to keep your kit tidy & organized. Sometimes new vapes come with accessories, which you’ll quickly throw in the wardrobe, forgot about, and never use again. This travel case, on the other hand, is actually useful, and we think most vapers will use it as standard.

The oculus carb cap (shown in the GIF below) allows you to preload your dab in the chamber. Then you can carry it around, safe in the knowledge that it is secure. It allows plenty of airflow that passes through when you take a hit. The carb cap also has a window, so you can see inside (you might need to use your phone flashlight though, if your vision is as poor as ours!). If you want to meet up and session with your buddies – The carb cap & hard shell case make the Puffco Peak Pro super travel friendly.

Puffco Peak Pro App

The smartphone app has a really sleek interface. You can design and create custom heat profiles which allows you to preset your precise temperature, heat duration, and LED light color. This lets you fully customize and personalize your sessions. We found that the visual prompt of unique LED colors is a really smart indicator. It’s surprising how quickly you start to match the light color, to the flavor and strength you get from your hit!

You can also have heaps of fun playing around with lighting animation styles – including fade, disco, spin, and more. You’ll see a dashboard of your key stats too – battery level, heating profile, bowl temperature and daily dab stats. It’s like Strava – for dabbing!

Now the app is completely optional. If you are tech-challenged, don’t have a smartphone, or if your phone runs out of battery – Then don’t worry. You can still use the Peak Pro without the app. It’s also worth mentioning that Apple doesn’t allow vaping Apps on their App Store. So to get hold of the app, just head to the Puffco App Page and download the iOS or Android app using their instructions.

Final Verdict

Using the device is extremely easy and intuitive. Any dabber – from beginner to experienced – will find it seamless to use. The device vibrates when it’s heated up and ready to hit. You can rip it soft or hard, and the temperature will remain precisely where it should. Overall, the vapor quality and flavor is very good. However, the vapor quality isn’t the stand-out feature of the device that warrants the expensive price tag.

That premium price is instead justified by the intuitive and premium features, that feel like you’re taking a hit on the ‘MacBook Pro’ of E-Rigs. The sleek design. The smartphone app, the light shows, and the smart sensor temperature control. The design of the device itself is absolutely gorgeous. It has that futuristic visual beauty. The app is really fun. We enjoyed playing around with the light show settings. The pulse, wave, and disco settings turn the e-rig into a fun centerpiece when you’re having a session. Like having a cool lava lamp to look at!

So the golden verdict – Does it warrant the price tag? Just like Seth Rogans brand, Puffco has been intentional in targeting the premium market. If you can’t afford the device – there are plenty of cheaper E-Rigs, like the Lookah Dragon Egg, that will still blow your mind. But if you can afford the price tag – we think it is worth the money. Concentrate aficionados will absolutely enjoy the experience that the Peak Pro offers – both of the tangible vapor you get, and the more holistic flourishes that help set the mood of the session.

The Puffco Peak Pro is for the concentrate lover who has a love for aesthetics and design… and plenty of money in their pocket!
