Best Preheat Cart Batteries 2026: 8 Batteries That Warm Your Oil First

Best Preheat Cart Batteries 2026: 8 Batteries That Warm Your Oil First

The Feature That Prevents 90% of Clogged Carts

If you’ve ever taken the first hit of a thick oil cartridge and gotten nothing — or worse, a weak, gurgling draw that tastes burnt — you’ve experienced what preheat was designed to fix. And if you live somewhere cold, use live resin, or vape Delta-8, you’ve probably experienced it a lot.

Preheat is a low-power warming cycle (usually 10–15 seconds at around 1.8V–2.0V) that gently heats your oil just enough to thin it and restore flow before you actually inhale. It loosens viscous oil around the coil, clears minor clogs, and primes the wick so your first draw is as smooth as your fifth.

We already have a deep dive on how preheat works and when to use it. This guide is the product roundup: the best batteries that include preheat, ranked by how well the feature actually performs.

🛒 QUICK PICKS — Best Preheat Batteries:

Best Overall Preheat: Cartisan Inspector — 1.8V preheat, 0.1V increments, 650mAh, digital display

Best Low-Voltage Preheat: Vessel Compass Rise — 1.9V floor, 5 settings, preheat, premium build

Best Budget Preheat: Ooze Slim Twist — Classic pen with preheat, variable voltage, under $15

Best Preheat for Thick Oils: DaVinci Artiq — Cooling airpath + preheat, 760mAh, stealth design

What Makes a Good Preheat Battery?

Not all preheat functions are equal. The differences come down to three things:

Preheat voltage. Lower is better for thick oils. A battery that preheats at 1.8V warms oil gently without cooking the terpenes. One that preheats at 2.8V is running at normal vaping voltage — that’s not preheating, that’s just firing. The best preheat batteries use dedicated low-voltage cycles between 1.8V and 2.0V.

Preheat duration. Most batteries run a 10–15 second cycle. Too short and the oil doesn’t thin enough. Too long and you risk overheating. The ideal is 10–15 seconds with automatic shutoff, which is what all the batteries below offer.

Ease of activation. Preheat should be simple — usually 2 quick clicks of the power button. Some batteries make this awkward (requiring unusual click patterns or holding the button in specific combinations). The best ones keep it to a standard 2-click activation.

For a full technical breakdown of the preheat function, see our Preheat Function Explained guide.

The 8 Best Preheat Cart Batteries for 2026

1. Cartisan Inspector — Best Overall Preheat Battery

The Inspector 510 Cart Battery Mahogany

Shop the Cartisan Inspector →

The Inspector earns the top spot because of its combination of the widest voltage range available (1.8V–4.8V in 0.1V increments) and a dedicated low-voltage preheat cycle. When you trigger preheat, it runs at the bottom of its range — 1.8V — which is the gentlest warming cycle you’ll find on any cart battery. That matters enormously for live resin and rosin carts where you want to warm the oil without damaging terpenes.

The digital display shows your exact voltage, battery percentage, and preheat status in real time. The 650mAh battery handles a full day of moderate use. The concealed design hides your cartridge inside the body, and the 0.1V increment control means you can dial in your vaping voltage with surgical precision after preheat.

If you use thick concentrates regularly and want the most precise preheat available, this is it.

Key Specs:

  • Battery: 650mAh
  • Voltage: 1.8V–4.8V (0.1V increments)
  • Preheat: Yes (1.8V low-voltage cycle)
  • Display: Digital screen
  • Charging: USB-C
  • Design: Concealed cart

Why it’s #1: Lowest preheat voltage (1.8V), widest voltage range, 0.1V precision, and a digital screen. The most capable preheat battery available.

2. Vessel Compass Rise — Best Premium Preheat Battery

Vessel Compass Rise 510 Cart Battery – All-Metal Palm Vape with Preheat

Shop the Vessel Compass Rise →

Vessel built the Compass Rise specifically for flavor-focused users who vape live resin and premium concentrates — and preheat is central to that design. The battery starts at 1.9V (among the lowest floors available) with 5 voltage settings that emphasize the low end of the spectrum. Preheat runs at the lowest setting, gently warming thick oils without burning delicate compounds.

The 550mAh battery is housed in Vessel’s signature premium aluminum body. The magnetic drop-in connection makes cart swaps effortless, and the wide crown accommodates carts of various diameters without wobble. If you read our live resin battery guide, the Compass Rise took the #1 spot there too — and preheat is a big reason why.

Key Specs:

  • Battery: 550mAh
  • Voltage: 1.9V–3.5V (5 settings)
  • Preheat: Yes (low-voltage cycle)
  • Connection: Magnetic drop-in
  • Charging: USB-C
  • Design: Premium aluminum, wide crown

Why it’s here: Premium build, 1.9V floor, and preheat designed specifically for thick, terpene-rich oils. The best preheat experience in a premium package.

3. DaVinci Artiq — Best Preheat for Thick Oils

Davinci ARTIQ Stealth Cartridge Vape

Shop the DaVinci Artiq →

DaVinci took a different approach to the thick oil problem. The Artiq combines preheat with a cooling airpath — vapor passes through an extended chamber before reaching your mouth, which cools it down and smooths out the draw. When you preheat thick oil and then take a hit through that cooled airpath, the result is noticeably smoother than any standard battery.

The 760mAh battery is larger than most concealed designs, giving you solid all-day performance even with thick oils that draw more power. Three voltage settings starting at 2.8V handle the vaping itself, while the preheat cycle runs at a lower dedicated voltage to warm oil first.

The stealth design fully conceals your cartridge. If you use live resin, Delta-8, or any consistently thick concentrate and want the smoothest possible first hit, the Artiq’s preheat + cooling airpath combination is purpose-built for that.

Key Specs:

  • Battery: 760mAh
  • Voltage: 2.8V, 3.2V, 3.6V (3 settings)
  • Preheat: Yes
  • Cooling: Extended cooling airpath
  • Charging: USB-C
  • Design: Stealth concealed

Why it’s here: The only battery that pairs preheat with a cooling airpath. Best for consistently thick oils where smooth first hits are non-negotiable.

4. Pulsar DL Tandem — Best Preheat for Dual Carts

Pulsar DL Tandem Dual 510 Vape Cart Battery

Shop the Pulsar DL Tandem →

If you use two cartridges — especially if one is a thick concentrate — preheat becomes even more important. The DL Tandem’s 15-second preheat function warms both carts before you draw. Combined with independent voltage control per cart (five settings from 1.8V to 3.8V), you can preheat and then vape each cart at its ideal temperature.

The LCD screen shows preheat status, and the 650mAh battery handles dual-cart use for most of a day. Full details in our dual cart battery guide, but the preheat function specifically is one of the best we’ve tested — the 15-second duration at 1.8V is ideal for loosening thick oil.

Key Specs:

  • Battery: 650mAh
  • Voltage: 1.8V–3.8V (5 settings, independent per cart)
  • Preheat: Yes (15-second, 1.8V)

  • Display: LCD screen
  • Charging: USB-C
  • Extras: 14mm water pipe adapter

Why it’s here: Best preheat in a dual-cart format. 15-second cycle at 1.8V warms both carts effectively.

5. CCELL Fino — Best Preheat with Precision Voltage

CCELL Fino Luxury Cart Battery 174

Shop the CCELL Fino →

CCELL is the industry standard in cartridge hardware, and the Fino is their premium battery offering. Eight voltage settings in 0.2V increments starting from 2.2V give you granular control over your vaping experience. The preheat function warms oil before you draw, and the 1190mAh system battery (Fino uses a dual-piece magnetic pod design) means you’ll rarely need to charge mid-day.

The Fino’s preheat is particularly effective because CCELL designed it to work optimally with CCELL cartridges — the coil technology in CCELL carts and the preheat cycle in the Fino are engineered to complement each other. If your dispensary uses CCELL hardware (many do), this is the natural pairing.

Who Needs Preheat (and Who Doesn’t)

Preheat is essential if you:

Use thick oils regularly — live resin, rosin, heavy distillate, or Delta-8 carts that tend to clog. Preheat loosens viscous oil around the coil so your first hit flows properly instead of producing a weak, gurgling draw.

Live in cold climates. Cold temperatures thicken oil dramatically. A cart that flows fine at room temperature can become nearly solid in a 30°F car. Preheat brings it back to usable viscosity in 10–15 seconds.

Experience frequent clogs. If you’re constantly pulling hard on a cart that won’t draw, preheat solves this. It’s the single most effective anti-clog feature available on cart batteries. For other clog solutions, see our clogged cart fix guide.

Want smooth first hits. Even with standard-viscosity oils, the first hit of a session can be slightly weaker than subsequent ones because the oil hasn’t warmed around the coil yet. Preheat eliminates that cold-start effect.

Preheat is nice-to-have (but not critical) if you:

Use thin oils exclusively — standard distillate carts at room temperature flow easily and rarely clog. Preheat helps, but you won’t suffer without it.

Live in consistently warm climates. If your oil is always at room temperature or warmer, clogs are less frequent.

Vape infrequently. If you take a few hits per day, the oil around the coil stays warm enough between draws that preheat adds minimal benefit.

💡 PRO TIP: Even if you don’t think you need preheat now, get a battery that has it. It costs nothing extra (most variable voltage batteries include it), and the first time you’re dealing with a thick cart in cold weather, you’ll be glad it’s there. It’s like buying a car with heated seats — you don’t always need them, but when you do, nothing else will do.

How to Use Preheat (Quick Guide)

On most batteries, preheat activation is the same: 2 quick clicks of the power button. The battery will pulse at low voltage for 10–15 seconds, then stop automatically. Wait 2–3 seconds after the cycle finishes, then take your normal draw.

Some tips for getting the most from preheat:

Don’t hit it during the preheat cycle. Let the cycle finish first. Preheat is warming the oil around the coil — drawing during the cycle can pull incompletely warmed oil and cause uneven heating.

Run preheat twice for extremely thick oils. If one 10-second cycle isn’t enough (oil still feels sluggish), run a second cycle immediately after the first. Two consecutive cycles handle even the thickest concentrates.

Use preheat after your cart has been sitting. If your cart has been in a cold car, a drawer, or unused for several hours, run preheat before your first hit. This is when clogs are most likely to form.

Clean your battery regularly. Preheat can’t fix a connection problem. If oil has built up on the 510 threading or center pin, clean it first with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. See our maintenance guide for the full routine.
