Lookah Seahorse Coils Comparison: All 5 Types Compared

Five Coils, One Device — How to Pick the Right One

The Lookah Seahorse line is one of the most popular electric nectar collector and concentrate vape ranges on the market — and the single decision that affects your experience the most isn’t which Seahorse you own. It’s which coil you screw into the tip.

There are five different Lookah Seahorse coils in the current lineup. Two are ceramic, three are quartz. They’re not interchangeable in terms of how they perform — and which one is “best” depends entirely on what concentrate you use, what device you own, and what you actually care about (flavor, vapor volume, durability, low-temp dabs). Picking the wrong coil for your style is the most common reason people end up disappointed with their Seahorse.

We’ve sold thousands of Seahorse coils across all five types since the line launched. This guide explains what each coil does, how the quartz and ceramic options compare, and gives you a clear matrix for picking the one that fits how you actually dab.

Coil-by-Coil Breakdown

Coil I — Quartz (the original)

Lookah Seahorse Quartz Coils I

The original Seahorse coil. A simple, exposed quartz tip — porous, smooth, and built for flavor. It heats slightly slower than the ceramic options but delivers the richest, cleanest terpene flavor of any coil in the lineup. The trade-off is durability — quartz is more fragile than ceramic and can crack if you press it hard into your concentrate jar or knock it against something. Handle it gently and it’ll last; abuse it and you’ll be replacing it more often.

Comes included with the Lookah Seahorse Pro, Seahorse X, and Seahorse Max. Sold as a variant in the Coil I/Coil II pack at $24.99 — the cheapest coil entry point in the line.

Get Coil I if: You prioritize flavor over everything else, you handle your device gently, and you mostly dab terpene-rich concentrates.

Shop Coil I Quartz →

Coil II — Ceramic (dual coil)

Lookah Seahorse Ceramic Coils II

The ceramic alternative to Coil I. Dual-coil structure inside a ceramic shell — heats up significantly faster than quartz, reaches higher temperatures, and lasts considerably longer because ceramic is more durable than porous quartz. The flavor isn’t as pure as quartz, but the trade-offs are worth it for users who run harder concentrates or want more hits per charge.

Comes included with the Lookah Seahorse Max. Sold in the same variant pack as Coil I at $24.99.

Get Coil II if: You mostly dab shatter, diamonds, or other hard concentrates, you want roughly twice as many hits per battery charge, and you’d rather have a coil that lasts longer than one that delivers maximum flavor.

Shop Coil II Ceramic →

Coil III — Ceramic Tube

Lookah Seahorse 2.0 Coil Ceramic Tube 3-pack

Functionally different from Coils I and II. Instead of an exposed tip, Coil III is a ceramic tube — your concentrate gets drawn into the tube on the inhale, contacting more heated surface area than an exposed tip can offer. The result is significantly bigger vapor clouds and a larger airway for fuller draws. Resistance is also lower at 0.6Ω versus 1.2Ω for the other coils, meaning it pulls more power from the battery for stronger hits.

Comes included with the Lookah Seahorse Pro 2.0 and Seahorse X. Important: Coil III does not fit the original Lookah Seahorse Pro. If you have the original Pro, you need Coil I, II, IV, or V.

Get Coil III if: You want maximum vapor production, you own a compatible device (Pro 2.0, X, Max), and you find exposed-tip coils too restrictive in airflow.

Shop Coil III Ceramic Tube →

Coil IV — Quartz (upgraded)

Lookah Seahorse IV Quartz Replacement Coils

The direct upgrade of Coil I. Same exposed quartz tip concept, but built with a more porous quartz that improves airflow and produces noticeably thicker vapor clouds than Coil I. The construction is also stronger — Coil IV resists damage better than the original Coil I. If you liked Coil I but wanted more vapor and durability without giving up the quartz flavor profile, Coil IV is what you’re looking for.

Get Coil IV if: You used Coil I and wanted more vapor without switching to ceramic, you want quartz flavor plus better airflow, or your Coil I broke and you’re looking for a tougher replacement at the same price tier as the other premium coils.

Shop Coil IV Quartz →

Coil V — See-Through Quartz Tube

Lookah Seahorse V See-through quartz coil

The newest and most distinctive coil in the lineup. Tube construction like Coil III, but in see-through quartz — you can watch your concentrate vaporize as you inhale. The coil tip itself is protected inside the tube, which improves durability compared to the exposed-tip quartz coils. Premium heat distribution across the tube surface means even vaporization with minimal burnt material. Particularly good with softer concentrates like live resins, live rosins, and badders, where flavor preservation at moderate heat is the priority.

Comes included with the Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus and Lookah Giraffe. This is the coil getting the most search attention in 2026 — and it’s the one most users upgrade to after starting with Coil I or II.

Get Coil V if: You run live resin, live rosin, or badder concentrates, you want the premium quartz experience without the fragility of exposed tips, and you like being able to see the vapor production during your draw.

Type M — The “Try All 5” Bundle

Lookah Seahorse coil type M

Lookah’s smartest product for first-time coil buyers. The Type M is a 5-pack containing one of every coil — I, II, III, IV, and V — at $28.99. Buying one coil alone costs $24.99–$28.99, so the M bundle is functionally five coils for the price of one. The catch is you only get one of each rather than five of your favorite, but that’s the point: it’s designed for users who don’t know which coil they prefer yet.

This is the genuinely smart play for anyone new to the Seahorse line, anyone who’s been using one coil exclusively but wants to test alternatives, or anyone who runs multiple concentrate types and wants the right coil for each session.

Get Type M if: You’re new to Lookah Seahorse coils and don’t know which one you’ll prefer, you run multiple concentrate types regularly, or you just want to find your favorite without committing to one type and being wrong.

Quartz vs Ceramic — The Material Question

The biggest decision when choosing a Seahorse coil isn’t which numbered coil to pick. It’s quartz versus ceramic. Three of the five coils are quartz (I, IV, V), two are ceramic (II, III). The materials behave fundamentally differently.

Quartz delivers cleaner, more terpene-forward flavor. The porous quartz surface vaporizes concentrate efficiently while adding nothing of its own to the taste. For flavor-chasers — particularly anyone running live resin, live rosin, or sauce — quartz is the obvious pick. The downside is durability. Quartz is fragile compared to ceramic. Drop your Seahorse on the floor, press the tip too hard into your concentrate jar, or accidentally knock it against something, and the quartz can crack or chip.

Ceramic delivers faster heat-up, longer life, and higher peak temperatures. Ceramic coils reach blazing-red temperature in roughly two seconds versus the slightly longer warm-up time of quartz. The faster heat-up means more hits per battery charge — about twice as many in our testing. Ceramic also reaches higher peak temperatures than quartz, which makes it the better choice for hard concentrates like shatter and diamonds that need real heat to vaporize cleanly. The trade-off is flavor — ceramic is more neutral than quartz, with less of the terpene clarity that flavor-focused dabbers chase.

There isn’t a “winner” in this debate. Quartz wins on flavor, ceramic wins on durability and battery life. The right choice depends on what you actually care about during a session. If you want to compare both materials side by side, the full Lookah coil lineup is here with every coil and its specs visible at a glance.

💡 PRO TIP — Buy the Right Coil for Your Device First: Before anything else, check that the coil you’re considering fits your Seahorse model. Coil III (Ceramic Tube) does not fit the original Lookah Seahorse Pro. If you have the original Pro, your options are Coils I, II, IV, V, or the Type M bundle. Coils that fit one device but not another is the single most common return reason on Seahorse coils — verify compatibility on the product page before clicking buy.

Which Coil for Which Concentrate?

Concentrate Type Best Coil Why
Live resin Coil V or Coil I Quartz preserves terpenes at moderate heat
Live rosin Coil V Tube construction protects delicate solventless flavor
Shatter Coil II Higher peak temps for hard concentrates
Diamonds Coil II Ceramic handles crystalline concentrates better
Badder / Budder Coil V or Coil IV Soft concentrates load cleanly on quartz
Wax / Crumble Coil I or Coil IV Quartz flavor profile shines with mid-density concentrates
Sauce Coil V Tube design contains runnier concentrates better
Big clouds, less flavor focus Coil III Ceramic tube produces the most vapor

If you don’t know what kind of concentrate you’ll be running, see our Solvent vs Solventless Concentrates guide for a primer on the categories and their typical handling characteristics. Once you know your concentrate, browse all available Lookah Seahorse coils to find the match.

Which Coil for Which Seahorse Device?

Seahorse Model Stock Coil Compatible Coils
Lookah Seahorse Pro (original) Coil I Quartz I, II, IV, V (not III)
Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus Coil V Quartz All coils I–V
Lookah Seahorse 2.0 Coil III Ceramic Tube All coils I–V
Lookah Seahorse X Coil I + Coil III All coils I–V
Lookah Seahorse Max Coil I + Coil II All coils I–V
Lookah Giraffe Coil V Quartz All coils I–V

Which Coil for Which Dabbing Style?

You dab daily and want maximum coil life: Go ceramic — Coil II or III. Ceramic lasts roughly twice as long as quartz under heavy use because it’s more durable and resists damage from regular handling.

You dab occasionally and care about flavor: Go quartz — Coil I, IV, or V. The flavor difference is meaningful, and if you’re not burning through coils, the durability concern matters less.

You’re switching between flower and concentrate: Get the Type M bundle. Different coils suit different sessions — pick the right one for the moment instead of compromising with one fits-all coil.

You break things: Skip Coil I. The original quartz tip is the most fragile in the line. Go with Coil II (ceramic durability) or Coil V (protected tip inside the tube).

You want bigger vapor production: Coil III is the only true cloud coil — the 0.6Ω resistance and tube construction pull more from your battery for bigger draws. Trade-off is flavor; quartz wins on flavor every time.

You’re new to Seahorse coils: Get the Type M bundle. You’ll save money versus buying individual coils to test, and you’ll find your favorite without guessing.

The Honest Take on “Which Coil Is Best”

There isn’t one. The best coil for hard shatter (Coil II) isn’t the best coil for live rosin (Coil V), and the cloud-chaser’s pick (Coil III) doesn’t fit the original Seahorse Pro at all. Anyone telling you a single coil is “the best” is either missing how concentrates and devices interact, or selling you the one they have in stock.

What we recommend instead: figure out what concentrate you primarily run, which Seahorse model you own, and what you actually care about during a session (flavor, vapor, durability, battery life). The matrices above point you to the right coil. If you genuinely don’t know, the Type M bundle is the smart starter — try every coil, find your preference, then stock up on that one.
