When Should I Change My Cotton?

Change Cotton Vaping

When to change the cotton in your rebuildable atomizer is a question that we all have when just starting out using RDA’s and RTA’s (rebuildable tank atomizers). Some people change their cotton every few days while others (like some of us here at DVP) will wait a few weeks before doing so. We think that there is actually no set schedule for your cotton to “go bad”, but there are definitely some factors to consider as to when is the right time.

Just so you know, we are just normal human vapers so the following factors are just our opinion. This isn’t vape law.

  1. If you are religious to vaping one specific eliquid, then it is ok to keep your cotton for a couple weeks or longer. After all, the cotton you’re using is already saturated with your favorite juice. When you wick new cotton you’ll have to break it in which isn’t so tasty, so just let your old cotton ride for a bit.
  2. If you’re a fiend for new juice, change your cotton every few days. The reason why is simple. After mixing a bunch of different eliquids, the flavor will be gross quickly no matter what you drip. When going to a vape convention… fuhgetaboutit! You’re going to be juice drunk at a vape expo so re-wicking will need to happen every hour at the least.
  3. If your cotton is burnt, change it now! Burnt cotton will always taste burnt. It could be fresh cotton, but no amount of juice will change the taste.

These factors should apply to changing your coil also. There could be a bunch of other signs and factors so if you have some, share them with us in the comments below. If you thought this post was helpful please subscribe to our newsletter for more helpful vape tips and tricks.
