Why Does My Vape Taste Bad?

You certainly didn’t start vaping with a bad taste in mind. In fact, with all of the fruity and pastry flavored e-juices on the market, bad taste should be the furthest thing from your mind. And yet, somehow, for whatever reason, you find your current vape tasting off or burnt. There are any number of reasons for a bad tasting vape – and all can be dealt with successfully.

Why The Bad Taste in your Vape?

In most cases, when someone says that their vape tastes bad, they are talking about a burnt taste. It might also be described as metallic. If you’re smoking an electronic cigarette, this is likely due to the hardware contained within.

It could be that, within the atomizer coil, there is a build-up of gunk. It might also have something to do with dry wick material. Those are the two most common causes for a burnt taste during vaping.

1. Dry Wick in Vape

A burnt or bad taste can be the result of an insufficient amount of e-juice getting to your wick. Additionally, when that wick is dry, harm can be done to your current atomizer through too much vaping. One suggestion, in order to combat this predicament (and only if you are using a top coils tank), is this: Either while or before vaping, tilt the tank and battery in order to wet the wick in e-fluid.

2. How Old Is Your Vape Coil Head?

If, when using a tank, you notice the burnt taste, it might be your coil head. How old is it? In addition to having a burnt coil, you may simply have an old coil. Try replacing the coil to get rid of the burnt taste, if you’ve been using it for a while. After changing the coil, don’t forget to prime your coil heads correctly. This can also help discourage hits that are burnt tasting.

3. Vaping with Temperature Control

To avoid burnt hits, and dry hits, it can be helpful to use a vaping device with temperature control. You can limit your vape’s exact temperature by using a temperature control mod with stainless steel, titanium, or nickel coils.

4. Wattage and a Burnt Taste

In some cases, you may need to lower the wattage on your device to get rid of the burnt taste.  Typically, the lower the watts, the higher the ohms – and vice versa. You may end up with a burnt coil – and a burnt taste – if, for your particular coil, you’re vaping at a wattage that is too high. Find a setting that tastes good and works for you, and stick to it.

5. Removing The Burnt Taste

Once your device has experienced the whole burnt taste phenomenon, you may need to clean out your device. It is recommended that you do the following: in warm water, wash the device thoroughly. Dry it with something soft or a paper towel. Now set it out in the open so that it can completely dry the rest of the way. Before vaping, you will need to once again prime your atomizer. Failure to clean out your device will likely mean that the burnt taste will continue on into your next taping experience.
